29 YR OLD LAGOS MAN IN COURT FOR RAPING A 48 YR OLD WOMAN

Twenty nine-year-old man, Adedeji Michael, has been arraigned before the Ebute-Meta Magistrate's Court in Lagos for allegedly raping a 48-year-old mother of six, Alice Essient.

The accused was said to have broken into the house of the victim in company with another accomplice, who is currently at large.

Both men had initially sought for the abode of an unidentified woman from Essient in front of her house at Railway Line, Otto in Ebute-Meta.

Immediately Essient went into her room, Michael and his partner were said to have broken into her house.

While his accomplice held her mouth, the accused allegedly tore her bra and panties and had carnal knowledge of her.

Essient's scream, however, attracted her neighbours who broke the door and apprehended Michael while he was pulling up his trousers.

His accomplice allegedly grabbed N10,000 under the victim's pillow before fleeing.

The police claimed that the accused, who was arraigned on  six counts of felony, assault, rape, stealing, also gave them false information about his name and address.

The charge sheet read in part, "That you, (Daniel) Adedeji Michael, m, and one other person at large on the 14th day of July, 2013 at about 1600hrs at Railway Line, Otto, Ebute-Meta in the Lagos Magisterial District did conspire to commit felony, to wit rape and stealing and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 409 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State Nigeria, 2011."

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges and elected to be tried for the offences at the magistrate's court.

His defence counsel pleaded that he be granted bail in liberal terms.

The prosecutor, ASP Etim Nkankuk, told the court that the complainant was in court and she was asked to stand up for recognition.

The magistrate, Mrs. Aje Afunwa, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties each in like sum.

The matter was adjourned till October 2.
