[Sport News] Cardiff City promoted to the premier league

Malky Mackay's side confirm their presence as the top flight's second Welsh team next season, having only needed a draw against Charlton on Tuesday to reach their target

Cardiff City have guaranteed their promotion to the Premier League after a 0-0 draw with Charlton.

Malkay Mackay's side have enjoyed a hugely successful campaign, winning 25 times this season, and currently top the Championship table with 84 points, having been first since November.

Their solitary point against Charlton confirmed their promotion and ensured that Wales will have two representatives in the Premier League next season, with Cardiff joining Michael Laudrup's Swansea City.

The Bluebirds will play in the English top flight for the first time since 1962 and their success comes exactly 50 years to the day that the club were last promoted to the top league of English football.

A sell-out crowd at the Cardiff City Stadium watched their side clinch the point they needed and there were jubilant scenes at the final whistle.

Speaking after the game, Bluebirds defender Mark Hudson told BBC 5 Live Sport:"I am lost for words right now. We thoroughly deserve that if I'm honest.

"The consistency we've had this year, top since November, and now we're promoted. We'll celebrate now then go for that title."
