DJ Khaled proposes to Nicki Minaj with a $500k diamond ring

Publicity stunt or is he for real? 37 year old record producer, rapper, DJ and record label executive, Khaled bin Abdul Khaled, better known by his stage name DJ Khaled, asked Nicki Minaj to marry him via a video posted online and he explained why he wants Nicki as his wife...
"I want to be honest with you. I love you. I like you. I want you to be mine. The only reason I'm not telling you this face to face is because I know that you're busy. You need a man like me in your life that's gonna take care of you and respect you. You gotta take your time and think about it, I understand... but I know I have to be here today to let you know how serious I am and about how serious this is to me. I want to let your fans know, my fans know, my family, your family, that I wanna marry you. I been working hard to get this ring... Nicki Minaj... will you marry me?'
DJ Khaled popped the question with a $500,000 diamond ring and with help from MTV. Nicki hasn't responded yet. The two recently worked together on Nicki's latest single 'Twerk It'.

s Denrele Gay??? You Won't Believe His Response + Photos

Nigerian entertainer, Denrele Edun has been the source of quite a few controversies.
One of which is the question of his sexuality. Perhaps, due to his feminine and flamboyant nature, a lot of people have wondered if he is indeed homosexual.
He addresses the rumors below;

Is Derenle Gay?

I think people believe what they want to believe.

But a lot of people believe you are. And to prove them right, a picture of you Charley Boy went viral on the internet recently…

I don't read the news, I make the news. The thing is people tend to look for loopholes when they see you doing well. And since people feel I'm feminine in nature, then they think I'm gay. But the truth is I don't really care about what people say because I'm not fashioned according to what the society expects. And also I think for my personality, if I were gay, the news would have grown from speculations and would have been in people's face.

On the part of Charley Boy and me, I was not expecting the paparazzi that came with the picture.

So what was the picture about then?

I really don't want to go into details, but it could have been a controversial agenda, it could have a been a publicity stunt, it could have been the real deal and it could have been photoshopped, but whatever it was, people should just go ahead and make their conclusions.

So why is Denrele still single?

I'm a hustler and I'm still trying to get myself together. When the time comes, I'll get married definitely, but there's no one in the picture now. I'm searching and ready to mingle.

Who is your ideal woman?

I like someone who would not try to change me and who would understand the complexity that I am. I want someone simple and absolutely free and not intimidated by what I represent.
It will probably be interesting to know that he did not outrightly deny being gay, and he avoided pronouns when replying the question regarding his ideal "woman".
Anyway, check out the infamous pictures of him and Charly Boy below. And as for his sexuality, looks like he will continue to keep us guessing.

Daybreak: We can’t believe we were pranked

Now that the Emeralds are out of the game and the Housemates have proven themselves right and some wrong about the Emeralds, life can go on as usual. The game was made interesting by Biggie by introducing the mysterious six and the Housemates were left with a bitter taste in their mouths.

This morning after the exercise routine, Sulu and Elikem couldn't get over the fact that they were pranked and that they were compeltely sold by the Emerald's existence. Biggie sure knows how to keep the Housemates on their toes.

Elikem started counting how many days of The Chase are left and how many will be leaving per week from here on. "This is the ninth week and so maybe one person will be leaving this Sunday and the rest of the weekends it will be two each," he said speculating the situation.

Annabel admitted that the Emeralds were pretty good actors but they didn't have all of them fooled. Cleo said that she told JJ that he was the only one that was holding it down for Zimbabwe and he did not feel fazed about that fact, with Cleo not knowing that he was on a mission to prank them. None of the Housemates can ever accuse Biggie of being boring again, that's for sure.

What other pranks do you think Biggie has up his sleeve for the Housemates?

Annabel, Elikem and Sulu are up for possible Eviction this week. Vote here to keep your favourite Housemate in the game.

Stay tuned to DStv channels 197 and 198 for all your Big Brother Africa The Chase action or catch the daily shows on Africa Magic Entertainment (DStv channel 150) at 20:00 CAT.

Meet The American Who Speaks Yoruba With Passion

If you want to provoke Kevin Barry, ask him how he became so proficient in Yoruba. Then, he would ask you how you were able to master English to the extent that you speak and write in it with little effort. Otherwise called Kayode Oyinbo,  he has mastered Yoruba such that he would even prefer that the telephone interview be conducted in the language. And so stunningly good in Yoruba haD Barry become that he has stolen the heart of actor and producer, Saidi Balogun. He is the star of U or I, the movie that Balogun premiered in Lagos last week.

"He is so passionate about Yoruba that he gets disturbed each time we are speaking and we Yoruba people mix English words with Yoruba," Balogun notes as he recounts his experience with Barry. Barry's adventure in the Yoruba worldview gathered steam when he enrolled at the University of Wisconsin to study International Relations and African Culture. But it really gained  flesh in 2010 when he visited Nigeria for an exchange programme  at the University of Ibadan. He says his passion became fired and he gave the project all he could to master the language.

"There is nothing I cannot say in Yoruba," he enthuses. "I am humble about it, but I speak it as much as I speak English." He recalls that he met Balogun at an event in New York, USA. After they became friends, Balogun introduced acting to him and invited him to take part in You or I, a movie that looks at marriage from the perspectives of what makes or mars it.I care about people I relate with. I wouldn't want to be part of just any film. But when I looked at the script that Saheed gave me, I told him that I wanted to be part of it."

The American, who plays the talking drum, bata, among other instruments, says the making of the film was very tasking. Apart from the fact that they had to move  from one country to the other – US, Spain, South Africa and Nigeria – which makes him to describe the experience as involving a gorilla style, he adds that there were days they had sleepless nights.

Kayode Oyinbo, who says he is also involved in public relations and events, enjoys Yoruba foods and loves Nigerian music. He loves seeing everyone dancing when a music is being playing at parties, unlike the typical American experience where, he says,  many parties are silent, if not dull.
He says, "I have eaten many Yoruba foods, including snakes."

Balogun adds that he chose to work with Kayode Oyinbo because he (producer) always wants to give viewers a unique experience.  He adds that he does not believe in churning out films without investing a lot in creativity, which, he says, stands out a good movie.

NLC Threatens To Join ASUU Strike

The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has threatened to join the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, in solidarity strike if the Federal Government failed to address the ASUU demands. NLC President, Abdulwaheed Omar, made the threat at the opening ceremony of the "2013 Rain School" in Uyo.
"We call on the Federal Government to have meaningful dialogue with ASUU with a view to implementing the agreement.

"The state governments should equally obey the law and pay minimum wage to teachers and the local government workers as well as the 27.5 per cent teacher's enhanced salaries.

"Should these strikes persist, workers of Nigeria will not hesitate to join them in solidarity," he stressed.Omar said the modules of the rain school were designed to train members of affiliate unions and state councils of the NLC. This is in order to equip them with necessary skills to empower and protect their rights at workplace." He said that the theme of the 2013 Rain School was imperative due to the obvious violation of workers' rights in the workplace and in the larger society.
The Akwa Ibom Chairman of NLC, Mr Unyime Usoro, commended the leadership of the congress for keeping to its promise on making Uyo the permanent host of the school.

"On our own part, we intend to ensure that the standards set five years ago that led to the permanent hosting right is not lowered.
"It is significant to note that the government of Akwa Ibom has graciously approved the building of the permanent block for Rain Schools here in Uyo to gather for the training needs of the union leaders across the nation," he said. The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, reports that the theme of the occasion was: "Strengthening the trade Union for Defence of Workers' Rights."

Housewife Dies During Sex With Lover In Hotel at Igando Lagos

The price of adultery is always tragic if one considers what happened at the weekend in Lagos between a young man and a married woman in a hotel room.
The man took the housewife identified as Glory Abbey to a popular hotel where she died during sex romp between the lovers.
The yet to be identified man quietly abandoned her corpse in the room they lodged and fled without informing the hotel's management about what happened.
The incident happened at Kings of Queens Hotel located at 11, Otunba Oladokun Street, Lanre Bus Stop, Igando, Lagos State, southwest Nigeria.
What could have caused her death was not yet known because the autopsy report is not yet out.
According to the hotel's manager identified as Saliu, the woman came to the hotel with the young man, booked a room and went in.
"After staying for several hours in the room the man came out and told the security men that he wanted to buy food outside and he did not return to the hotel," he said.
They later discovered the woman lying dead on the bed in the room.
Saliu said he did not see any physical injury she sustained and could not explain what really  caused her death.
The owner of the hotel, Otunba Richard Oladokun, who also confirmed the incident, expressed shock over what happened.
He said he was informed about what happened on phone by his manager and he went to the police station at Igando and reported the matter.
He said he came with the police to the hotel and found the woman lying dead on the bed and the police took away her corpse to the mortuary.
Oladokun said what surprised him most was that the young man who brought the woman to the hotel initially picked his calls and promised to come back but did not. Rather, he later switched off his phone and no one has been able to contact him again since the incident happened.
Nobody has been able to contact the woman's husband or relatives as there is no address to trace them at the time of this report.
Confirming the incident, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, described Glory's death as sudden and  unnatural.
She said her body has been deposited at the mortuary for autopsy, while the police have since commenced investigation into the matter.
A  similar incident happened sometime ago when a married woman who had four kids was found dead after she went to a hotel in Mushin with her lover who is also married and has kids. During the sex romp, the woman collapsed and died. After she died, her lover attempted to escape but he was caught and handed over to the police. The police later charged him with murder at Ebute Meta Magistrate's Court Lagos.

Nigerian Graduate Gets Nottingham Trent Varsity VC’s Award

A Nigerian Nottingham Trent University student who provided Christmas dinners for dozens of fellow international students unable to return home for the holidays has received a prestigious vice-chancellor's award.

Betty Alali Odema received the award for the quality of her academic work, her contribution to internationalism of the university and her support for fellow overseas students during the annual graduation ceremonies, watched by senior government officials who had travelled from Nigeria. The vice-chancellor's awards are given annually to one person from each of the university's nine schools.

University lecturer Imad El-Anis, who nominated Betty, said: "As well as the excellent work for the course and work to boost internationalism, she mentored and supported fellow overseas students. In 2012 she cooked and sold different African foods to raise more than £1,600 for a student struggling to pay tuition fees.
"And every Christmas since 2010 she has personally funded, cooked and organised Christmas Day dinner for fellow international students unable to travel home to their families for the festive season.

"Betty has been a real inspiration." The international relations student said: "I was overjoyed when I heard that I had been selected for the vice-chancellor's award – I called everyone I knew. My dissertation was on Niger-Delta Conflict. That's the area I am from and I would like to build a career working for the government or a government agency in the region to really make the most of the skills I have learned during my time at Nottingham Trent University."

She was one of five students from the African nation to have their education sponsored entirely by the Rivers State Sustainability Development Agency, part of the state government.

The visitors from Nigeria who watched the graduation included the agency's executive director Mr Noble Pepple, the Rev Precious Omuku, the Honourable Joseph Poroma, the Honourable Ibiso Nwuche, Mr Godwin Poi, Mr Kingsley Uranta and Mrs Imah Adegoke.
Victoria Crane, former director of Nottingham Trent International College, attended the graduation as Betty's guest. The college prepares overseas students for study at university. Betty was joined by fellow graduates Auxwell Bank Ozuru (economics), Godstime Ugele (law), Esther Wahu (accounting), and Daniel Nlemogu (law). Daniel graduated with first class honours.

Four more Nigerian scholarship students – Thankgod Nnadi (business management), Pia Promise (computer engineering), Adibaal Ibo (business management) and Sotonye Davies (law) – will graduate later this year.

Sponsorship was provided by the Rivers state governor's special overseas scholarship programme, created to provide first-class education for students with disabilities from the south-western region of Nigeria.

Kanye West-Inspired "Kanye Quest 3030" Video Game Now Available

According to Kotaku.com, a video game version of Windy City rapper Kanye West will serve as the protagonist in a newly-released, Japanese role-playing game (RPG) titled "Kanye Quest 3030." Created by Phenix, "Kanye Quest 3030" is described as "a hip-hop-themed science-fiction 2D roleplaying game starring Kanye West" that's set in the year 3030.

The game, which is not actually endorsed by West, also features artists such as Jay-Z, Nicki Minaj, Lil B, Tupac, and the Notorious B.I.G. But unlike West, the other rappers featured in the game are clones who are controlled by a "god-like dictator."

"Kanye Quest 3030" is far from the first video game to incorporate a rapper or other musician. Beginning in 2003, Def Jam began to release a series of Hip Hop-heavy video games. The first, titled "Def Jam Vendetta" was a wrestling video game, which featured DMX, Joe Budden, Ludacris, and a handful of other artists.

Hip Hop has also been prominent in the soundtracks of various video games including "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas" and "NBA 2K13."

The trailer for "Kanye Quest 3030" can be found below.

UPDATE: "Kanye Quest 3030" is now available for download on its creators' Tumblr page.
